Beware!!! Read this first - all the problems are...48 + 27. I had not expected that. It mucked my lesson up a treat. But therein lies the lesson - always read it first - however professional and promising it looks.

Milking Maths word problems
This article helped me to introduce the concept of word problems to my able Y3 class.
The children are easily confused by all the words in word problems but keeping to the same calculation helped them to focus on the important 'bits' and ignore the rest.
