People who help us – Cleaner – poem

Teachers’ notes: The poem lists all the irritations caused when things don’t happen as we expect them to. Lots of people make our lives more comfortable every day, but because we don’t always see them we rarely give them a thought.

Ask the children to list all the jobs that haven’t been done in the poem. What might it be like to do the cleaner’s work? (Sometimes messy; working when everyone at school has gone home; working when it is dark in winter.) Why do the children think the cleaner might have gone on holiday?
