World Maths Day
Add to My Folder
It’s World Maths Day on Wednesday 3 March, and children all over the UK are preparing to join more than two million students from across the world and break a world record for the largest online maths competition!
World Maths Day is the world’s largest education event where children and young people (aged five-18) from around the world compete in real time against other each. The free event, hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa this year, encourages students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to participate.
Children and young people in the UK will officially mark the start of World Maths Day 2010 at a series of launch events held around the country on 2 March at 11.00am. The competition will be officially launched in the UK at the Playing for Success Learning Zone at Wembley Stadium, with a live countdown and links to simultaneous launch events taking place around the world.
Last year’s Champion, 11-year-old Kaya Genc from Australia, said: ‘I’ve been practising for World Maths Day and I can’t wait to go online and defend my title. This year Mum’s going to go online and give it a go too. Can’t wait to get started!’
