1 A super, silly scarf

Create an extravagant, colourful scarf for a teddy

What you need

Group size: small groups.

Long strips of white cotton fabric; tray; absorbent kitchen paper; water spray; selection of food colourings; dishes; pipettes; teddies.

What to do

Give each child a long strip of white cotton fabric and encourage them to describe the texture of it. Place the pieces of fabric on to a tray covered in a thick layer of absorbent kitchen paper. Lightly spray the fabric strips with water until they are damp.

Pour each food colouring into individual dishes. Using separate pipettes for each colour, show the children how to create dots, lines and swirls on the fabric. As the dye sinks into the wet fabric, it will gently spread and fade forming interesting shapes and patterns.
