Where’s Spot? by Eric Hill was the first adventure to be enjoyed by the mischievous little puppy. The book, a firm favourite with children and adults, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, so why not celebrate this momentous occasion with these fun activities based on the book?

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Encourage the children to use the book for a memory game. When they are familiar with the story, ask questions to stimulate recall of events, for example, ‘Can you remember who was hiding in the piano?’ and ‘Where did Sally look for Spot?’.
Lift the rug-shaped flap on the inside front cover and read the words, ‘This book belongs to ….’ . What should the reader write here? Discuss why the children need to label personal possessions, such as clothes and items that they bring into the setting. Find examples within the setting, such as names on artwork, coat pegs and drink containers.
