In the news
Take inspiration from the recent Icelandic volcanic ash crisis of 2010. Show the children some TV news footage depicting how aeroplanes across the globe were grounded and the travel chaos that it caused for holiday makers. You could also share some newspaper reports with your children if they are not familiar with their layout and language. Using this as a stimulus, ask the children to write a front page news story about the issue.
