Let’s share the passion of the Tour de France.
“A high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.”
Purpose of StudyGeography Programmes of Study: Key Stages 1 and 2
Embed these expectations this summer with an exciting real-life context that ticks several geographical boxes. The iconic Tour de France is a multi-day bicycle stage race commonly billed as the world’s largest annual sporting event. With the motto ‘Partageons la Passion’– in English: ‘let’s share the passion’ – not only may the TdF inspire a life-long interest in all things connected to cycling; but it importantly provides an ideal opportunity in which to promote curiosity and fascination about the people and places of Western Europe. With many eyes already focused on the Euro 2016 football tournament, use the TdF to develop geographical skills beyond stadia locations and into the wider French countryside.
