When children have learned about the history of Sikhism they can take a closer look at how Sikhs worship today

Sikhs worship at the gurdwara. Gurdwara is the Punjabi word for ‘guru’s door’. Any place that contains the Guru Granth Sahib is a gurdwara. Many Sikhs have a room at home where the Guru Granth Sahib is kept and is read daily. This room is also called the gurdwara. Some historic gurdwaras are associated with the lives of the Gurus. One such gurdwara is the Harimandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, in Amritsar (see large poster). This is where the Guru Granth Sahib was placed for the first time.
