Planning, done well, can be the making of a learning experience, but what makes for good planning and how should we, as teachers, be constructing it?

Ofsted emphasises the importance of effective planning and highlights the distinction between a written lesson plan and a planned lesson. It stresses that ‘inspectors are interested in the effectiveness of planning rather than the form it takes.’ ( Ofsted inspections: myths, July 2018 ).

Teacher planning

An effectively planned lesson should incorporate and reflect on:
  1. How children will learn
  2. Your current children and their place in their learning journey (differentiation and personalisation)
  3. Creativity
  4. Realistic outcomes that reflect high expectations
