Embrace topic-based teaching with these great cross-curricular ideas for Vikings by Lizzy Lines!

Sometimes the freedom of teaching a creative topic can feel like doing a teaching trolley-dash; throwing as many ideas as possible into the plans with gay abandon. Here, Lizzy Lines gives some great advice on how she focused on the task in hand:

Where to start?

‘If you were learning about the Vikings what would you like to know?’ I asked my class. We got the usual random answers you get from a bunch of five- and six-year-olds, including ‘Did Vikings get married?’ and ‘Did they go to school?’ as well as the predictable_ ‘How did they go to the toilet?’_ But I wanted this to be their topic as much as mine, so all questions had to be considered.
