Teach in Chembakolli - Children in Classroom

For the first time the international development charity ActionAid, together with Indian NGO ACCORD, is offering the opportunity for two UK teachers to volunteer for six months teaching in the southern Indian village of Chembakolli.

The placement will begin in January 2010 and is a fantastic chance for teachers from the UK to live and work in the village and interact with the local Adivasi people on a daily basis. It will allow the teachers to get a first hand understanding of the fascinating history of the area and experience rural Indian culture.

Successful applicants will teach for six months at the Vidyodaya School, teaching a range of subjects to the local children aged from seven to fourteen. A once in a lifetime opportunity, the placement will be a highly rewarding educational experience. They will be able to blog about their experience on a weekly basis on the award winning Chembakolli.com.

The position is open to anyone with over two years teaching experience with a PGCE or equivalent qualification. It is voluntary although travel expenses and accommodation will be covered, in addition to a local living allowance.

The deadline for applications is 14 September 2009. The placement will begin on 11 January 2010.
