Sporting legends set to inspire children to get active
Sporting legends including Olympic 400m runner, Jamie Baulch and Olympic swimmer, Sharron Davies, joined together with the children of Oak Lodge Primary School in Bromley, to encourage children to play more sport via the re-launch of the exciting in-school programme, Super Schools.
Super Schools provides a unique programme of activity for schools across England and Wales by taking Olympic and Commonwealth athletes and sports stars into schools so children can meet their sporting heroes and learn how they can achieve their own sporting goals or simply be inspired to become more active.

Super Schools takes a sporting personality into a school for a day. The event allows children aged four to 13 years to have a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity to meet their sporting heroes and have a photo taken with them as a memory of the day. They also listen to a motivational talk from the sport star about how they achieved their ambitions and take part in a series of sponsored exercises, raising money for the school.
The athlete’s talk is designed to inspire, motivate and encourage children to get active or to join a local sporting club and may even create the spark to find a new sporting legend!
With the increasing focus on healthy eating and exercise and the growing trends in obesity and diabetes amongst the UK’s population of children, there is no better time for the new Director of Super Schools and Olympic Silver Medal winner, Jamie Baulch to re-launch the concept and get kids excited about sport.
Jamie Baulch, the new Director of Super Schools, said: ‘Super Schools is a tremendous programme. I have been involved with the company for over 12 years, attending schools across the England and Wales. It is always an incredible day and everyone benefits from it. I’m always so proud to be a part of motivating children to take up sport and hopefully encourage them to achieve something amazing.
‘I have recently taken over the reins of Super Schools and my team and I are really excited about the future of the company, especially in light of recent ‘health’ campaigns such as Change4Life. We are in a great position to kick-start a child’s interest in sport and we want to continue to go from strength the strength, visiting more and more children.’
Super Schools currently visits 350 schools across England and Wales and by 2012 hopes to be in over 2000 schools, visiting one million children and their families, helping to promote sport and to find the future of sporting talent in the UK. Schools can sign up by visiting www.superschools.co.uk
