Stories can provide a great way of modelling good social skills to children. We’ve selected some of our favourite books that focus on kindness, communication and healthy relationships. Each recommended read is accompanied by activity ideas that expand on the themes introduced in the book.

Sharing a Shell

The tiny hermit crab loves his new shell. He doesn’t want to share it – especially not with a blobby purple sea anemone and a tickly bristleworm! But life in the rock pool is tougher than Crab thinks. Soon he finds that he needs his new companions, and that sharing a shell is all about sharing friendship and problems too!
