Have fun creating some nutritious space-related food and drink

space snack

Before you begin the activities, arrange a safe cooking area for the children to make healthy space-themed meals, drinks and treats. Store clean aprons in the area and make sure that hand-washing facilities are available nearby. Involve the children in tidying and cleaning the area and emphasise the importance of hygiene routines such as cleaning surfaces, putting rubbish into bins, keeping certain foods cool, washing hands, tying back long hair, wearing aprons and so on.

Ask for parental permission for the children to handle and taste foods. Check for any food allergies and dietary requirements. Ensure that a responsible adult supervises the children while using the cooking area.

Suggested resources

Safe and clean area with suitable cooking and food storing equipment; clean aprons; hand-washing facilities; cleaning equipment; posters of healthy foods; pictures drawn or painted by the children.
