School walls v Great outdoors

Educational experts increasingly acknowledge the fact that children learn in different ways. While it is the case that some learn best through seeing or hearing, many (particularly boys and some children with special needs) learn best through doing.

Outdoors, children can continue to learn through listening and looking – but there are also many opportunities to take part in hands-on learning. Substantial evidence exists to indicate that outdoor learning allows children to develop their knowledge and skills in ways that add value to their everyday experiences in the classroom. In light of this, NES Arnold has recently linked up with All Souls’ RC Primary School to investigate the benefits of incorporating outdoor learning into everyday lessons – and to discover the ease with which this can be achieved.
