Save the rainforest

The plight of today’s disappearing rainforests is one which you may perhaps have already touched on during other topics. The fact that rainforests are under threat affects us all, and it is important that children understand how places a great distance away can still influence aspects of their lives here. So how can we bring our children to care about somewhere so far away? Is it possible to make them passionate about saving a place that they may never see? This month’s topic aims to bring some of the wonder, beauty and sheer diversity of the rainforest into your classroom. Hopefully, your children will develop a natural respect for such an important part of our Earth and appreciate why the rainforests are worth fighting for.

The topic is cross-curricular in its content but has a strong emphasis on fun, hands-on activities. To try to capture some of the beauty of the rainforest, I have included a range of art and craft ideas. If you try them all, your classroom will be awash with jungle colours and eye-catching displays.
