Literacy

The ELG’s for this Area of Learning have been broken down into three sections. ‘Comprehension’ (which was previously under ‘Understanding’ in Communication and Language Area of Learning), ‘Word Reading’ and ‘Writing’. Word Reading focuses on the decoding of words using the children’s phonetic knowledge and Writing focuses on formation of letters and sounds. It is important to remember to give children purposeful writing experiences that help to develop these required skills in a fun and meaningful way.
