By Laura Ward

The new guidance published by the government provides children with the essential building blocks in order to develop positive relationships with other children, adults and within families. From the simple ideas of turn-taking and kindness, through to honesty, respect and personal privacy, children will explore relationships they may make at school, home and also online.

Teachers have a vital role in helping children navigate the world; showing them the characteristics of healthy relationships and relationships in a wide-range of contexts will support them in their development of their own understanding of respect for others and themselves.

There are five main points of focus within the new Relationships curriculum:
  • Families and People Who Care For Me
  • Caring Friendships
  • Respectful Relationships
  • Online Relationships
  • Being Safe
