Come rain or shine, enjoy these fun activities to celebrate St Swithun’s Day (15 July)

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Tell the children the legend associated with St Swithun’s Day; that if it rains on St Swithun’s Day, it will rain continuously for 40 days and 40 nights. Turn the role-play area into a weather studio and suggest that the children pretend to be weather reporters. Place a large map on the wall and encourage the children to draw simple weather symbols on to discs of card to represent the sun, rain, wind, snow, thunder and lightning.
Help the children to cover the symbols in clear plastic film to make them robust. Provide Blu-Tack or Velco so that the children can reposition the symbols on and off the map several times during role play. Encourage the children to describe the different weather as they play.
