Resource Bank members can now download the complete book ‘Quick Fix for Phonics’ for free. In this article author Wendy Jolliffe explains how to use this invaluable resource.
About the book
This resource will improve subject knowledge for teaching phonics and includes detailed lesson plans for each major step. It principally aims to support children who have struggled to grasp phonics and provides guidance on conducting diagnostic assessments to help decide on an appropriate teaching programme. The resources can be also used to support teaching phonics more widely.
The programme provides a detailed systematic progression for teaching all 44 phonemes and their corresponding graphemes. However, it can be used flexibly by deciding which point of the programme to commence, or where to continue teaching. The focus throughout is on multi-sensory teaching that provides constant over-learning through the use of a range of oral, visual and kinaesthetic prompts to help children recall grapheme/phoneme correspondences.
