The importance of children taking ownership of their learning and having greater roles within school decision-making is increasingly recognised and can be a more powerful tool than school leaders may initially think. Pupil leadership forms a huge part of the teaching of British Values and Citizenship, improves children’s communication skills and aids in gaining the confidence of the children.

What is effective pupil leadership?

Recognising that children have thoughts and opinions on issues that matter in the classroom, in the school, and beyond this in their local and global community.
Giving children an active role in influencing and taking action on decisions about these issues.
Enabling children to participate as role models and the voice of their own future.
