No-one wants children associating reading and writing with being bored, and children, just like adults, learn faster and retain knowledge much more efficiently when they are engrossed in activities that interest them.

A common issue with literacy learning is that if you don’t manage to catch children’s attention with the topic on offer you’ve lost their interest from the start. The following tried-and-tested activities are all designed to encourage children to engage and interact with literacy in a positive way, and have all proved effective not only at grabbing that initial interest, but for retaining and expanding it further.
