When helping children to understand the need for fair tests in science investigations, appeal to their innate sense of fairness
If only we had £1 for every time a child made the complaint, ‘It’s not fair!’. Children’s innate sense of fairness can make an ideal starting point for developing their investigative skills. Your class may struggle to follow the logic of changing one variable and keeping all the others the same – but equate this to a playground race where one child is allowed to start before the whistle and they will recognise the unfairness straight away.
