As the Early Years Foundation Stage comes into play in September, Jane Cole suggests ways to plan for the EYFS in order to help provide the best start for all the children in your setting

In my experience, early years practitioners work very hard to do the best for the children that they work with. Sometimes this leads to anxiety about procedures and concern to know if what they are doing is ‘right’. The requirement in the Early Years Foundation Stage is: ‘Providers must plan and organise their systems to ensure that every child receives an enjoyable and challenging learning and development experience that is tailored to meet their individual needs’ (‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’, page 37). So what is ‘right’ for the child?
