Philosophy: Where does the sky end?

I’m sure that you can remember lying on your back as a child, looking up at the clouds and imagining that you could see creatures, faces and other worlds (see the poem on Activity sheet 3, ‘A cotton wool gallery’). There’s something magical about the sky, with its ever-changing features and wealth of different cloud formations. In this article, clouds are used as a theme to develop children’s philosophical thinking. It’s a great starting point for some ‘head in the clouds’ style thinking, and a wonderful reason to take your class outside looking up into the great outdoors.
