Volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis – discover an engaging unit of work that uses our active planet as inspiration

The windows are taped up and there’s a big sign on the classroom door saying ‘safety zone’. We’re in the middle of a disaster, but there’s no panic and the children are in charge.

The Year 3 children of Abel Smith Primary School in Hertford are taking part in the Entry Point for the International Primary Curriculum’s (IPC) The Active Planet unit. This unit will take them through several weeks of cross-curricular learning based around the theme of volcanoes and earthquakes.

Several weeks on and the unit now complete, Year 3 teacher, Carol Hodge describes some of the creative learning activities that her class enjoyed…

    Explosions in y3

    Geat content. 2 of my colleagues have been on training for cross curricular work and come back with stunning ideas. This matches theirs but with a completely different starting point - just what I needed for inspiration.
