Reception children receive special Booktime pack to encourage reading

Children who started school this Autumn term will each receive a special Booktime pack, featuring a copy of the children’s classic, Funnybones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Supported by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Booktime campaigns encourage parents and carers to read aloud with their children and help foster a love of books. The pack also includes activity sheets, session ideas and a short Booktime film.

Beverley Hughes, Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families said: ‘One of the most important things a parent can do to help their children learn is to read to them and introduce them to the habit of reading. Sharing a book with a child is fun – it’s a time for closeness, laughing and sharing together.’

A podcast of author Allan Ahlberg is available at booktime
