Explore this iconic British home – a familiar sight on many of today’s streets

Illustration of 1950s semi-detached house

We continue exploring homes from the past in the final of our interactive history series by taking a look inside a 1950s semi-detached house. Using the Interactive resource children can take a virtual tour around the house to look at different rooms and floors, zooming in to discover more detail to get a taste of Britain during the 1950s.

A floor plan is available as part of the resource (with a separate downloadable plan available for all readers – Activity sheet, ‘Plan of a 1950s semi-detached house’) so that children can easily identify the basic features of this style of house.
