Help younger juniors to understand that vibrations are not always directly visible with these stimulating sound investigations

As the National Curriculum points out, not all vibrations are visible. For this reason, many children find it difficult to associate familiar noises with vibration. They may accept that musical instruments – such as drums, cymbals and guitars – vibrate to make their sounds, because they can see the physical movement. However, they may find a kitten’s vocal chords vibrating to create a ‘meow’ sound, or the vibrating of a car engine, more difficult to envisage.
