What is Eid-ul-Fitr?
This festival is one of the two major celebrations for Muslims, Eid-ul-Adha (big Eid) and Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid means a time of recurring happiness or celebration. ‘ul-Fitr’ refers to ‘breaking the fast’, which in this case is at the end of the month of Ramadan. Known as ‘little Eid’, Muslims mark the end of their fast with three days of gatherings for special prayers and sermons and traditional family-centred meals and other festivities.
