Stories about objects
‘I don’t know what to write!’ How often have we heard that? Actually, I have a great deal of sympathy with that statement. I often get scared to start, distracting myself with other ‘important’ things. Then, the moment comes when my deadline is frighteningly close and I look for a stimulus, a germ of an idea, a gem of an idea.
How can we help children to overcome the fear of starting? We need to ask them for a deadline but we owe them a stimulus. We want them to take a germ of an idea and make it into a gem of an idea. A shared ‘ideas time’ activity can be very helpful when trying to make the task of writing seem possible and much less scary.
