Books are a valuable resource in settings and schools, inspiring a love of reading, promoting communication and language and sparking imaginations. They underpin learning and development, linking to interests, topics of discussion and the discovery of new concepts.

Books are especially beneficial for nurturing language. The revision of the EYFS, with the sharper focus on communication and language, highlights the benefits of a book-based provision.
