Down Syndrome Awareness Month – October
Add to My Folder
Our experience shows that the greater understanding classmates have, the more tolerant, accepting, and empathetic pupils become. With this in mind, DSUK have created this set of teaching materials.

Background
The aim of DSUK PADS is to promote a better awareness and understanding of Down syndrome, to encourage and support embracing diversity of those with a learning disability whilst removing any discrimination.
Our experience shows that the greater understanding classmates have, the more tolerant, accepting, and empathetic pupils become. With this in mind, we have created a good practice guide for preschools and teaching materials for Key Stages 1 and 2 that can be used in assembly and/or during PSHE lessons in the classroom with accompanying lesson plans.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month
To celebrate Down syndrome awareness month, DSUK has partnered with nurseries and primary schools across the UK to teach children a little about the condition. The children have been invited to dress up for the day and may have an assembly or lesson about Down syndrome, at any chosen date during October. To find out more, click here.To support this initiative, DSUK has created the set of teaching resources found below, free for your use.
Please note, if there are any pupils or siblings/relatives of children with Down Syndrome at your school, we kindly request parents are consulted in advance of giving these sessions to obtain their permission.
