“My name is Nhung. I am ten years old and I live in Vietnam. My parents are rice farmers. We also grow fruit and vegetables, and we have a buffalo, chickens and ducks. I like to feed them because it helps my parents.

We are Dao people. We wear very different clothes. Women wear wooden hats and colourful embroidered costumes. We also speak a different language. Most of our people can’t afford to buy land and, like my family, they rent from the government.

I get up at five o’clock and cook rice soup, then walk to school. Lessons are in Vietnamese, but I like learning it, even though it is a different language. I only go to school in the morning as I have to look after my sisters so my parents can work. I miss going to school.
