Teach favourite topics in a different way with Janice Hamilton’s suggestions for making exciting links across the curriculum
South America/Peru
Geography:
Develop an understanding of the world and the location of South America by using Google Earth to travel from the children’s home town to Lima, the capital city of Peru.
Geography:
Discuss the work of cartographers and how they use aerial views to generate maps. Try drawing a simple plan of the school/ location from an aerial photograph.
Food Technology:
Make ‘Besitos’ (Little Kisses), a traditional Peruvian sweet, made from condensed milk and desiccated coconut. Mix the ingredients into a thick consistency, cover with cling film, chill, and then roll into little balls.
Music:
Listen to some traditional music of the Andes played on the panpipes. Children can compose a simple tune on the pipes and record it.
