I am sure that your science teaching already helps to stimulate your class’ curiosity in the world around them, while encouraging them to think both critically and creatively. But sometimes, children need to move away from books, web pages and activity sheets and observe, explore and ask questions about living things, materials and phenomena in as creative a way as possible. It is in the ‘doing’ of the science that they will learn best. Most younger primary children tend to be enthusiastic and positive about science, but this enthusiasm often dwindles as they progress through Year 6. We should try to retain this scientific interest early on, as it is these fervent young scientists who will go on to influence and improve our future.
