The Buddleia Tree

Try growing your own buddleia plants in an outside area. Children can try sketching any butterflies they see.

Read the story, ‘The buddleia tree’, and talk about how and why different plants and flowers attract butterflies. Plant your own buddleia plant in an outside area or in a large pot. Let children go outside with sketch books or paper and clipboards and draw any flowers or butterflies they see in the wild. Encourage them to only use sketching pencils and show them how to use them to reproduce the symmetrical patterns on the butterflies wings.
