Helping children to fulfil their ambitions

This article was originally written in the context of the SEAL programme (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning), but the circle time activities could be used within PSHE education, or to address specific issues which arise in your classroom.

Going for goals is never easy. It takes persistence and faith to fulfil our ambitions, and nobody manages to be the best without hard work, single-mindedness and practice.

The key to healthy motivation is a strong belief in ourselves, which enables us to overcome setbacks and disappointments. This is a hard lesson for some children to learn, as not every child finds learning easy or straightforward. We need to help these children to see that even if it takes a long time to reach a goal, each step along the way is a step forward and should be celebrated.
