All the activity ideas in this article are based on the theme of journeys. Children love to share stories about the different journeys they’ve been on, from travels to visit relatives overseas to bus trips to the local shopping centre – every story is told just as enthusiastically.

Map of our day

A fantastic book for both key stages is Mapping My Day by Julia Dillemuth, which introduces Flora, a girl who loves drawing maps ― of her buried treasure, the breakfast table, the route to school and more! The book also includes extra content for parents and professionals about maps and spatial concepts, as well as questions, games and activities designed to encourage children’s map-building skills.
