‘Eat Better, Do Better: A practical guide to adopting a Whole School Approach to food in special schools’ is a new resource produced in collaboration with Government Office for London, Government Office for the East of England, the School Food Trust and Healthy Schools.

The resource consists of guidance and a CD that aim to support health professionals, teachers and school staff in special school settings to adopt a ‘whole school approach’ to promoting healthier eating amongst children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The `Eat Better, Do Better: A practical guide to adopting a Whole School Approach to food in special schools’ has been designed to focus on:

  • the scope of the healthy eating component of the Healthy Schools programme
  • how to improve school food using a Whole School Approach
  • how to put in practical steps to achieve healthy eating in a range of diverse settings
  • details of the school food standards and how they should be implemented in special schools.

The resource will be sent to all special schools and Local and Regional Healthy School Coordinators. It will also be available as a downloadable PDF from the Healthy Schools website at www.healthyschools.gov.uk
