Circle games and linking printable resources to tackle behaviour and set clear classroom rules

Everything has a reason

You will need

A collection of everyday ‘useful’ objects (eg ruler, key, spoon, pencil etc).

What to do

Place your objects in the centre of the circle. Get a volunteer to pick one and then describe how the object is useful. For example: ‘A key helps us to open a locked door.’ Let other children take turns picking an object.


Talk about what the word ‘useful’ means – serving a purpose, having a reason for existing etc. Then select one of your classroom or school rules and talk about how it works. For example, ‘We line up and wait until you tell us to move.’
