Children writing

Let’s be honest – grammar is not sexy. Yet there’s no reason why teaching, learning and practising our language framework cannot be enjoyable. It just needs a fresh attitude. Our new series aims to put the glamour back into grammar. Each month we’ll focus on different word classes: nouns, verbs and adjectives (this month), prepositions (Dec ‘08), connectives (Jan ‘09) and adverbs and pronouns (Feb ‘09).

A great way to introduce the following activities is to first show the children the second, third and fourth of the ‘Grammar safari park’ activity sheets ‘Grammar definition cards’ (featuring nouns, verbs and adjectives) and invite discussion and examples. Can the children explain each term to a partner? Point out any irregular examples. And, don’t forget to display the Poster, ‘Grammar safari park’ somewhere prominent so that the children can use it as inspiration.

Using our fantastic Poster, ‘Grammar safari park’, your class will soon get into the swing of some snappy grammar work. The Interactive resource, ‘Grammar safari park’ (members only) challenges children to drag and drop appropriate word classes to match characters, scenes and events in the poster.
