Development matters: show curiosity about numbers by offering comments or asking questions (30-50 months); recognise some numerals of personal significance (40-60+ months).
Early learning goal: recognise numerals 1 to 9.
What you need
Group size: small group.
Laminator; photographs of the children’s front doors; spare photographs of doors numbered 1 to 10.
What to do
Invite the children to bring in a photograph of their front door, preferably with the door number on. Laminate the photographs.
Show the children one of the spare photographs. Describe the colour, size and material of the door in the photograph, and identify the number.
Encourage the children to take turns to talk about their door and trace over the door number with their finger. What is the number on the door? Do any doors have the same number?
