Arts and crafts are great fun, and this is almost always enough to get us going with the paints and glitter glue. But for the teachers, parents and caregivers of young children, art can do much more than just pass the time in a productive way and provide some fun. Here, Charlotte Baldwin of IQ Cards explains to us the many advantages to doing arts and crafts with children.

Motor Skills

In their early years, children go through a lot of growth and development, and their physical, mental and neurological abilities expand exponentially. As adults, it is easy for us to overlook just how challenging those early years are, and how much development has to take place before they can perform tasks we assume are simple, like dressing themselves or eating with a knife and fork. While all of this development is going on, we should do whatever we can to encourage it, and getting children to complete tasks using their hands and come up with ideas are great ways to do this. Best of all, there is no wrong answer when it comes to art, so children are free to explore and develop themselves at their own pace without any formality.
