QCA Unit 13: Painting with sound

Add to My Folder

By Robin WarrenPrimary teacher and education writer

Follow our step-by-step guide to help deliver activities that support this Music QCA unit for Years 3 and 4

Objective:

That music, like pictures, can describe images and moods.

Activity:

Listen to a piece of music (your choice). Try and make the room as dark as possible, and allow the children to listen to the music for a minute or two. Stop the music and ask the children some questions about it – what does it make them think of? How do they feel? Then listen to it all the way through. Create a sound picture with the children using coloured crayons on paper. Ask them to draw the images they can hear and see in their minds.
