The Initial Teacher Training Framework

Under instruction from Nicky Morgan, and in response to the Carter Review published in January 2015, Stephen Munday CBE and his team have constructed a framework of core content for Initial Teacher Training.

The report, which you can read in full here goes into detail about the various expectations of teachers, but the main features are as follows:

A teacher must:

  • Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
  • Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils.
  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge.
  • Plan and teach well structured lessons.
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment.
  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
  • Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
