The non-statutory notes and guidance accompanying the Year 5 Earth and Space module in the 2014 National Curriculum recommend that children develop an understanding of how ‘the geocentric model of the solar system gave way to the heliocentric model’ with reference to the work of Ptolemy, Alhazen and Copernicus.
