What is Chinese New Year?
This celebration marks the end of the lunar year and looks toward a new year and a fresh start. The main activities last for three days. However, the festival continues for 15 days, concluding on the day of the first full moon of the year with Teng Cheih, the Lantern Festival.

Chinese New Year
This is great background info that all pre-school/nursery teachers should have. At the preschool where I work the children can all say Happy New Year in Chinese and have enjoyed making a Lion costume and dancing the lion dance to Chinese music. The children that weren't dancing were playing musical instruments and dancing along to the music. In the cafe they have eaten Chinese food with chop sticks which has been very popular. The children have also made red money envelopes and have learnt about the 12 animals of the chinese zodiac. They found this very interesting especially finding out which year they were born in. They have also enjoyed making rabbits using compost plant pots, funky foam and art straws. We have had a wonderful week of fun and learning it's a shame it has come to an end! 4 out of 5
