The ‘Come rain or shine’ guided reading leaflet features five poems on a weather theme. Two extra poems, ‘Rain…’ and ‘Puddles’ by Brenda Williams, have audio versions and sound effects, so are perfect for less able readers.

These teachers’ notes accompany the ‘Come rain or shine’ Guided reading leaflet .
Previous learning
The children should be able to recognise poems by their layout and notice when rhyme is used. Discussion will also be enhanced if the children have previously encountered similes or metaphors in stories read to them, and talked about the pictures they create. To decode the poems, the children will need a working knowledge of the grapheme choices for many long vowel phonemes.
