Teachers’ notes: Discuss the properties of suitable materials for an umbrella cover. Consider strength, elasticity, waterproofing, lightness, attractiveness and cost. Show a collection of materials, for example, wool, denim, Gore-tex, cotton, net, bin bag and so on. Discuss what it is that makes a material waterproof or not, and how this can be fairly tested.
